without no permit- yes! its Christmas in jail for singing on the cta - }

for millions a year-are free to go roaming-liked they
never done nothing here- by stealing and gambling away
that hard working mans beer -

I sang to the jailers prisoners- laying in a cell-they all asked, if I'd sing another?-
so i sang another to give em all a bit of Christmas cheer-
refrain
verse 6- now when my day in court came the judge didn't think it was really fair-
so he handed down the sentence -saying, no good deed goes unpunished-

verse 7- now there's a lesson here to be learned-
now that the court has been adjourned-
how the rich and mighty have no time for some folk singer

and they will lock you up just for being poor-
but hey! -shouldn't it be Christmas everyday all year-
refrain
