It’s humbling and embarrassing to ask for help because I can’t pay the current bills, never mind expanding/upgrading things. But I have been wondering whether this Patreon concept is the best .
Some folks like to donate spontaneously and are perhaps a little wary of pledging to a specific monthly amount .
Couldn’t you keep your PayPal account as an option ? Or does that clash with the Patreon concept too much ?

I wish that were an option, Eva. I loved PayPal, but they restricted my account temporarily and despite REPEATEDLY asking for an explanation, they refused. The best I could get from one email was that they objected to an UNUSED donate link I had on an old anime page that had been long abandoned. I removed the whole site (as I said, it had been abandoned anyway), and contacted them about removing the temporary restriction. They responded by just closing the account altogether, without providing any additional information at all. Now they won’t answer any of my messages. I am still dumbfounded by the whole incident, but I didn’t want heap my woes on you guys by airing it publicly. But since you specifically asked, there it is. When you have a monopoly over online payments, I guess you don’t have to worry about being reasonable.
Oh, and they also decided to close my wife’s account too! Again, no explanation – heck she’d only ever used it once in 10 years. But since we shared an address, I guess they must have figured hers needed to be shut down too. Just baffling.

I guess it’s no use if we complain to them ? We’ll all probably get our accounts closed too .. what utter crap ! 👿
And is there any way we can go in and alter our monthly donation to Patreon ? Or are we then stuck with the new amount ? Haven’t really investigated how it works . I guess there’s still snail mail , but how many uses that anymore ?

I have no idea, Eva, but you’re right, sending a Dylan-mob after them about it would likely just make it worsen for everyone. They’re a private company and can cancel accounts whenever they like.

…but, yes, I think that just changes the monthly amount which you would have to edit again if you wanted to change it again.
