finaly my favorite 3th. battle top 15 |
|
Dear friends,
As drummer from The New Fools Belgian Bob Dylan Tribute Band, i'm now 30 year on the road with my band. During this time i met lots of Dylan performers and Dylan fans. Thanks to the battle we met many good musicians in Europe and became good friends. One of the battlers are Ben Schuurmans, the lead singer from my band and Luigi Catuogno. Of course he's in my top 15, but next to him many GREAT performers who bring an awesome tribute to Dylan ! It was very hard to pick out 15 bands, mostly i ended at 21 for my top 15... But anyway : congratulations to all bands !
Voila my disordered favorite 3th. battle top 15 :
Al Diesan & PinoTocco: With God On Our Side
Ben Schuurmans & Luigi Catuogno: Every Grain of Sand
Bill Madison: Ballad Of A Thin Man
Blood on the Tracks: Tangled Up In Blue
David Bertsch: Lay Down Your Weary Tune
Dylan Dogs: Blowing in the Wind
Jacques Mees: North Country Blues
Kaj Wilhelm (Joker): Lenny Bruce
Kurt Matthew: Never Say Goodbye
Luigi Catuogno: Man Gave Names To All The Animals
Maggie’s Farm Southern Band: I Shall Be Released
PetTommy: License To Kill
Roger Holmroos: Girl of North Country
The Highlights: Everything is Working
Wilbur: Outlaw Blues
Have fun !

Thankyou, Steve, for asking and setting up this forum topic. This is the best I could do. I was not able to narrow it down to less than 18. One of my choices did not make it into round one.
Al Diesan & PinoTocco: With God On Our Side
Ben Schuurmans & Luigi Catuogno: Every Grain of Sand
Blood on the Tracks: Tangled Up In Blue
Chris Dylan: All I Really Want To Do
Dennis Heller: Things Have Changed
Dylan Dogs: Blowing in the Wind
Frenchy Burrito: Things Have Changed
Frenchy Burrito And The Folk Pistols: Senor (Tales of Yankee Power)
Hard Rain: As I Went Out One Morning
HOW MANY ROADS: You Angel You
Ivy: Tomorrow Night
Jacques Mees: North Country Blues
Michael Roberts: One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)
Sofia Laiti: I Shall Be Released
The Bob Band: All Along the Watchtower
The Hideaways: From A Buick 6
The Highlights: Everything is Working
Zimming Point: Like a Rolling Stone

I just listened to A Band On Stage's version of "License To Kill" again and realize it has to be added to my list.
Bringing to total to 19 songs.

more than 15... |
|
Right you are Dennis !
It's hard to reduce the top to 15 ! I always came up to 21 for my favorite top 15 and notice that 3 performers from your top 15 ended on 16-17-18- in my top 15...
Enjoy your stay at Dylan Radio !
Keep on supporting all battlers !
Steve

I am so glad I am not one of the judges in this Contest! |
I'm glad about that, too.

Top 16? |
|
Hi Steve and all you other listeners,
This really is a hard job you have set us!
I have tried all I could by giving each song points for the instrumental play, the singing and the recording and then I added one or two points for originality (translations e.g.) or special expression or subtracted some if I felt a song was too long or a bit boring. But even then the differences were minimal and I had to pick 16 if I wanted to include my own band, Hard Rain ;-(
To be honest, my absolute favorite is A Band on Stage, with their License to Kill. But other than that, I love them all! So now, here goes:
A Band on Stage: License to Kill
Bill Madison: Ballad Of A Thin Man
Born 53: Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window
Bruno Cattivelli: Mama You Been On My Mind
David Bertsch: Lay Down Your Weary Tune
Dennis Heller: Things Have Changed
Die DoubleDylans: Taunus (Highlands)
Dylan Dogs: Blowing in the Wind
Invisible Republic: I’m Not There
Ivy: Tomorrow Night
Jacques Mees: North Country Blues
Kurt Matthew: Never Say Goodbye
Matze Schmidt: Mainwasser (Highwater)
Maurenbrecher & Band: Eternal Circle
Robobob: Shelter from the Storm (Division 5 Reconstructed)
The Hideaways: From A Buick 6
The Highlights: Everything is Working
Triple Moon: Not Dark Yet
Tudesque: Schweri Ziite (A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall)
Hard Rain: As I Went Out One Morning
All the best, y'all!

Top 15 or 16? |
|
Hi,
Maybe I should make one reservation: much as I love Ivy's 'Tomorrow Night', I don't think it is strictly a Bob Dylan song, even though he sings it beautifully. But if I'm right, Ivy can participate 'hors concours' as far as I'm concerned.
Cheers,
RobK
